Introducing the Untamed 2021 Chardonnay
The pioneering spirit of living Untamed is rooted in our winemaking style. To craft the perfect sip, each vintage boasts a unique flavor profile due to how the grapes reacted to Mother Nature that year. Instead of forcing a wine to stay consistent across different years, we stay true to the grape and nurture the wine to its fullest potential.
Because we are owner-operated, we have the final say over each barrel and bottle, ensuring our guests enjoy the finest glass of wine with every sip. Without further ado, we proudly introduce our 2021 Chardonnay. A wine different from our 2019 vintage. A sophisticated wine intended for sophisticated palates.
As we prepare to unveil the new vintage, we have received a few questions from our Cru in the tasting room. Here are some of the most common inquiries:
How is this 2021 Chardonnay different from the 2019 Untamed Chardonnay?
Our 2019 Chardonnay was made with non-Chardonnay drinkers in mind: featuring slight oak, notes of lemongrass and citrus, this refreshing white caressed taste buds with a bright mouth feel. This Chard paired particularly well with fresh, light flavors like mozzarella.
In contrast, our 2021 Chardonnay is characteristically similar to traditional Chardonnay, but will continue to delight our non-Chardonnay drinkers as well. The 2021 vintage boasts slightly more oak, notes of lemon meringue and toasted almonds, and envelopes your mouth with a crisp bite and creamy finish. This versatile wine pairs beautifully with rich brie, and flavorful, hearty meals.
Both the 2019 Chardonnay and 2021 Chardonnay are from the same vineyard, so why the difference in taste?
During the 2019 harvest season, we experienced many storms before the grapes were fully ripened. This resulted in a longer harvest season than usual. This weather created grapes with a crisp and clean flavor profile, inspiring us to develop this wine with minimal new oak and allowing the natural citrus notes to shine brightly.
In 2021, the vineyard experienced mild weather and a lower crop yield. The lower yield allowed each grape to develop more flavor while on the vine. For these exceptional grapes, we immediately sought to develop this vintage into a rich, more traditional Chardonnay by introducing slightly newer oak. Although it is pretty amazing right now, this full-bodied Chardonnay will get even better with time!
Which is better?
